The Bengal Tiger Haven
The highest density of Bengal tigers in India, more than 40 leopards, over 25 species of mammal, and a healthy population of Indian bison (gaur), deer, langur, wild boar and more than 200 varieties of birds — Bandhavgarh National Park is one sanctuary that allows you to really get in touch with nature and almost guarantees you an encounter with the big cat. A couple of jeep safaris here and you stand a very strong chance of catching a glimpse of that wild cat! You can also enjoy elephant safaris and explore the entry point of the park Tala Village for its mud houses and pretty landscape.
Ironically, Bandhavgarh was originally a hunting preserve belonging to the Maharajas of Rewa—legend has it that was considered a good omen for a Maharajah of Rewa to shoot a tiger! Discover more such legends and tales from the local guides of Samode Safari Lodge, a luxurious yet eco-designed complex of forest lodges, right on the edge of the national park.
